Meet Your Auditor

Health Audit NZ Ltd auditors are experienced, respected and qualified health professionals. Each member of your audit team has expertise that is relevant to the service being audited.

The Auditing Team

The number of auditors in each team varies with the complexity of the organization and the types of services being audited. There is always a lead auditor who, as the name suggests, will lead the audit team and manage the audit process. The lead auditor will be supported by one or more auditors. In combination, the members of the audit team will have an appropriate mix of healthcare knowledge, experience and understanding and thereby give assurance your audit will be performed in a competent manner. The team may also include a technical or clinical expert if necessary to ensure the audit findings are accurate and balanced.

Auditor Training and Qualifications

All Health Audit NZ Ltd auditors are trained and qualified to best practice standards for auditing. Our auditor training and assessment programme is nationally accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and internationally accredited by RABQSA International. In addition to credentialing our auditors to the highest standards, Health Audit NZ Ltd maintains and continuously improves auditor performance using regular assessments, peer review and professional development.

Support and Client Services

The relationship with each of our clients is a very important feature of the Health Audit NZ Ltd business. Each client has a client manager who is a qualified lead auditor and has the background and experience to understand your business. Your client manager will keep in contact with you on a regular basis. The client manager works in partnership with you in planning your audit programme and following up audit findings to completion. Our clients also appreciate the consistency that a client manager brings to their audit process. Through working in partnership with you, the client manager will over time ascertain and strive to meet your needs and expectations.


The audit teams are supported by an administration office. Our efficient and dependable support functions have evolved over many years. We understand the auditing business, in particular the importance of supporting our clients and client managers in planning and delivering audit services.

 

AUDITOR PROFILES

Mike Thornber
Qualifications: PhD, MSc, CChem, MRSC
Auditor Status: Registered Lead Auditor


Mike is the Managing Director of Health Audit NZ Ltd. He has over 25 years experience in a variety of management roles and has a doctorate in healthcare quality management science from the University of Auckland. Mike has managed and performed healthcare service audits since 1993. He also manages Health Audit Training Ltd, an NZQA registered Private Training Establishment with a nationally and internationally accredited programme for training in healthcare auditing and quality management.

 

Lesley Smith
Qualifications: RN                                                                                                                                 Current NZ APC
Auditor Status: Registered Lead Auditor


Lesley has in-depth experience in a wide range of hospital (tertiary level), aged care, physical and intellectual disability residential care settings as well as primary health services. Her special interest is in Dementia Care and her clinical skills are complemented by expertise in implementing, managing and auditing quality and risk management systems in New Zealand and Australia.

 

Faye Gardiner
Qualifications: RGON, BA, Dip Mngmt (NZIM), Cert. Company Direction  (IOD)                                        Current NZ APC
Auditor Status: Registered Lead Auditor (Quality Management System) RABQSA


Faye is New Zealand born and bred, a Registered Nurse by profession and an independent consultant in quality and risk management to health services.  for the last 16 years she has worked with health care providers to help them develop systems to ensure that their services are safe and of a high standard.  she is an experienced Lead Auditor qualified to audit quality management systems in health services against national and international quality and safety standards.

 

Marilyn Barclay

Qualifications:  RGON                                                                                                                            Auditor Status: Registered Lead Auditor


Marilyn has extensive and wide-ranging nursing experience and also specializes in management systems in the healthcare sector. She is a qualified and experienced tutor for healthcare auditor training courses.

 

Christine Davies
Qualifications: RN, Registered Midwife                                                                                                    Current NZ APC
Auditor Status: Registered Lead Auditor


Christine has vast experience working in both the public and private healthcare sectors. She has broad experience in midwifery, in aged care services, mental health and neurosurgery. Christine has been a member of our audit teams on a regular basis for five years.

 

Pam Armstrong
Qualifications: Advanced Certificate in Addiction Services
Auditor Status: Lead Auditor

Pam has in-depth expertise in managing and auditing addiction services, including problem gamling. She is an acknowledged expert in cultural safety within Maori provider organizations. Pam has held senior management positions at health board level for mental health services.

 

Sarah Harnisch
Qualifications: RN, Dip. Health, Clinical Expert                                                                                        Current NZ APC
Auditor Status: Auditor


Sarah has worked as a clinician, supervisor, project coordinator, manager and in research in the public health and NGO sector.  Since 2004 she has been managing her own business as a Quality Consultant and clinical supervisor.  Sarah's experience has been mainly in the mental health and addiction sector.  She has a lead auditor qualification and has been auditing for about 10 years. 

 

Penny London
Qualifications: RGN, Diplomas in Comprehensive Nursing and Midwifery                                                   Current NZ APC
Auditor Status: Lead Auditor


Penny has a very wide range of clinical skills covering community care, maternity, brain injury re-habilitation, mental health and addictions. She has in-depth expertise in managing, developing, training and mentoring auditor teams.
