Audit StandardsHealth Audit NZ Ltd is accredited by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) to deliver auditing and certification services to a variety of quality and risk management standards for a wide range of healthcare providers. Health Audit NZ Ltd is also designated by the Director-General of Health as a Designated Auditing Agency (DAA) for the purposes of the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act. The standards that are audited by Health Audit NZ Ltd using these accreditation and designation credentials are outlined below.
NZS 8134 is the generic quality and risk management standard for the New Zealand health and disability sector. NZS 8134 is used by a wide range of services including hospitals and residential care. As a Designated Auditing Agency, Health Audit NZ Ltd audits providers against NZS 8134 for certification for the purposes of the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act. Other providers who do not fall under the safety regime also use NZS 8134 as a certification standard. The standard is suitable for provider organizations that deliver a variety of healthcare services.
NZS 8151 is one of the sector standards that are aligned with NZS 8134. NZS 8151 sets out the quality requirements for the provision of accident and medical clinic services. These services are defined as primary care services that are episodic with a no-appointments system. Health Audit NZ Ltd is approved by the Accident and Medical Practitioners Association (AMPA) as a NZS 8151 auditing and certification agency. Health Audit NZ Ltd also meets the ACC accreditation requirements for this auditing and certification service.
NZS 8157 is a sector standard for providers offering treatment and support to people with alcohol and other drug addiction problems. The standard can be used alone for auditing and certification purposes by a specialist alcohol and addiction providers. Alternatively, larger and more complex provider organizations can use NZS 8157 in conjunction with other quality and risk management system standards.
NZS 8158 is a sector standard for providers offering home and community support services to a wide range of people. Consumers include people with long-term support needs including physical disability, mental illness and chronic medical needs. NZS 8158 also addresses the requirements for services to people with short-term needs such as following discharge from hospital or following referral from a primary health service.
NZS 8164 is the sector standard that focuses on the needs of patients undergoing day-stay surgery and procedures. The standard is used by organizations that provide facilities especially for day-stay surgery and procedures, for example a theatre or a surgical unit.
ACIMSS is a quality and risk management standard designed specifically to meet the needs of attendant care service providers and service users. Services covered by ACIMSS:2008 are delivered in the home, for example to people with a disability such as spinal injury or brain impairment. ISO 9001 is a fully generic standard for all kinds of services and is used throughout the world as an auditing and certification standard. ISO 9001 is particularly appropriate for healthcare provider organizations that deliver a wide and diverse range of services. This standard serves as a platform on which an organization can build its quality management system in combination with service-specific standards such as those described previously.
